INTRODUCTION
In 2012, China Daily Hong Kong launched the Campus News Awards as an annual event to promote student-run campus news and media outlets. The event aims to improve the newswriting and multimedia production skills of students, and provide a platform for communication and idea exchange among peers from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
China Daily has held the Campus News Awards for 13 consecutive years. It has a judging panel of more than 100 government officials, journalism professors and media professionals. Nearly 3,600 journalism-major students have won the awards over the years. This year, the award categories have been reduced from 27 to 20 categories, with four new categories added to emphasize innovation and environmental sustainability. These are Best Environmental News Report, Best Innovative Application Report, Best News Feature Video, and Best Picture Story, further reflecting a commitment to diversity and sustainable development.
